A team at the University of Washington have built a circuit that can run on the available power of a tree.
The results will be published in an upcoming issue of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ Transactions on Nanotechnology.
“As far as we know this is the first peer-reviewed paper of someone powering something entirely by sticking electrodes into a tree,” said co-author Babak Parviz, a UW associate professor of electrical engineering.
The press release has some in depth information about how it has been done, starting with hooking nails to trees and connecting a voltmeter to generate a steady voltage, to how they designed the circuit.
Hopefully when the paper is published there will be more details on the circuit device they’ve constructed.
